Manuel Laínez

Director of the Spanish National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA), Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness

Bachelor of Veterinary by the University of Zaragoza in 1986, PhD in Agricultural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 1998 and Diploma in Food Security by the Valencian School of Public Health in 2002.

Since 2012 holds the position of Director of the National Institute for Agricultural Research and Food Technology (INIA) of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. From 2008 to 2012 he previously held the position of Director General of Agricultural Research and Food Technology of the Generalitat Valenciana and was Head of the Centre for Animal Technology Research of the Valencian Institute of Agraricultural Research from 2005 to 2008.

Manuel Lainez has been Animal Production Associated Professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia for 10 years, Vice President of the Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research for four years, Vice President of the Agroalimed Foundation for the Promotion of Agri-Food Research in Valencia for four years, Member of the Governing Council of AINIA Technology Center for four years. He is currently a member of the Governing Council INTIA of Navarra and CITA of Aragon.

He has also published research papers related to animal production and health, especially in the areas of intensive livestock production, and informative articles related to livestock technology and foresight food research. He has supervised six doctoral theses and has participated in publicly funded research projects, particularly in public-private partnership projects with companies in the livestock sector.
